Dendritic paint stone and oxidized sterling silver dangle earrings. They have a strip of metallic sheen in the middle that shines when they catch the light. The stones are visible in both the front and back of the settings. These earrings were hand made out of sterling silver, which has been given and oxidized patina. The sheet behind the stone has a window cut out to reveal the back of the stone and reduce weight.
Dendritic paint stone is a rare type of sedimentary rock, often classified as a jasper or fine-grained rhyolite. The stone features warm, earthy shades of red, ochre, orange, and yellow, with branching mineral patterns resembling miniature desert landscapes or abstract painting. Other names for this stone are Death Valley paint or Indian paint stone.
All of the gemstones in the collection are thoughtfully sourced and selected by me and each piece is crafted by hand in my Hudson Valley, New York studio.
Each earring is approximately 1 3/8 inch tall and 4.7 grams in weight.
